The temple belongs to Tendai–shu (a sect of Buddhism), and was built more than 1,400 years ago.  The best  scenery of the year is the three-storey wooden pagoda with cherry blossoms in spring and coloured leaves in autumn.  You can enjoy traditional vegetarian cuisine at two inns and a restaurant within the temple grounds (bookings recommended).
